I am amazed at how many people don’t understand that the sound of their voice is directly connected to their success in life.

“The voice is the megaphone of the soul”, said ancient sages. Voice Power Studios’ translation, “The Voice is the megaphone of your Personal Power."

"It took me quite a long time to develop a voice and now that I have it I am not going to be silent.” Madelaine Albright, US Secretary of State.

When speaking professionally or personally, there are three voice skills that you need to project your Personal Power and communicate effectively.

My favorite quote extolling the benefits of a great voice is by the great American poet, Maya Angelou “Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning”.

People identify with your voice which allows them to feel and get involved with your message. The power of your voice tells your story, carries your message and sells your products and services.

How to keep the listener’s attention is the most frequently asked question in the Free Analysis Consultations. Most people assume that others are listening. Wrong! Most the time they are half listening, if at all.

It is the speaker’s job to make others want to listen. How?

First, stop all machine gun talking. Talking too fast erases your message. Why? People can hear you but it doesn’t mean they are listening. When you slow down it allows your client, customer, or patient to really understand and get involved with what you are saying. The most easily understood speaking rate is 120-160 words per minute.

Second, stop all mumbling. Speak your words as clearly as possible, making sure you say the ends of your words. Words have selling power and speaking clearly makes you sound confident, believable and persuasive to your customers, clients and patients.

Third, start speaking with an engaging, lively sounding voice that makes your message come alive for your client, customer, or patient. Emphasizing your words by varying the pitch on words that you feel are important to your message keeps your listener engaged. Try telling a story using this technique and watch people pay attention.

To quote John C Maxwell, the popular leadership coach, “People may hear you but they feel your attitude through the sound of your voice.“
